Sandro Barros launches Jeypore collection
Jaipur, the beautiful and magical pink capital of the state of Rajasthan, India serves as inspiration for Jeypore, the autumn / winter collection of Atelier Sandro Barros. Starting point for an immersion in the era of the Maharajas, the city is also a cosmopolitan place that hosts numerous foreigners who dazzle with the local fabrics, jewels and spices.
– It is my imaginary India, from what the current Maharaja of Jaipur, Padmanabh Singh, told me about her grandparents, about the myths and culture of the city, all with the enthusiasm of a young man who has struggled to preserve, and at the same time time, to update the traditions and the customs of his people, in fact it was he who baptized the collection, using the old way of writing Jaipur - says Sandro.
Thus, the decoration of the more than one thousand halls of the City Palace, where the Maharaja lives, declines in countless motifs in the line embroidery, gold and pearl, besides the brocades with cashmere designs. The complex white inlays of Chhavi Niwas, the complex's famous Blue Room, are transformed into a series of party dresses modeled with tailoring techniques. The explosion of the Holi Festival colored powders gained a short embroidered version as if it were a second skin.
– I also thought of the visit of Jackie Kennedy and Lee Radziwill to India in March 1962, so the silhouette brings much of that decade, with short dresses, straight and with female folds and tailleurs to wear during the day. At night, we have one-shoulder dresses, all embroidered, a more natural skirt fall, next to the body - says Sandro.
A series of red dresses resemble Indian brides, the guests wearing structured frills, velvet embroidered with copper wires, feathers applied to the bar of their skirts and wrists.
From men's clothing, comes the great novelty of the collection: the mantos and robes-mantos. One of them, embroidered magnificently with natural pearls of fresh water, refers to the jewels of the Maharajas.
